“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

We believe that we have been called to use the gifts God has given us to reach unbelievers for Him and to encourage, and build up His Church.

Somerset County Jail

I've said before that Maine' Somerset County Jail is my favorite jail.  The fact that its initials-SCJ- is the same as my ministry's (Supreme Court Jesters) and those initials are on the chapel floor makes me feel welcome every time I come there. Furthermore, while other jails and even prisons use their libraries, cafeterias or other common spaces for chapel services, the chapel has a very prominent place within Somerset County.

I was there again last weekend for three services: women, men and maximum security.  While three services in a row is a lot harder at 58 than it was at, say, 38, I can still pull it off.  On top of everything else I love about this jail, the chapel is well lit and has high ceilings; both blessings to jugglers.  I focused my theme around Paul's teaching about the fruits of the Spirit, contrasting them with similar fruits we can try to 'muster up' ourselves, but which always fall short.  The best thing is, they got it without me coming across as preachy.  We had fun and at the same time, they listened respectfully and occasionally emotionally as I spoke.  I encouraged those who had further questions, or were moved by the service (or perhaps even were angry with the Gospel message) to seek out the Bible studies there sponsored by local churches.

One thing I found encouraging was that I did my story of the thief on the cross for both groups of men.  I love the story, but have been trying to tweak the illusion that accompanies it for years.  I think I've got it to the place where it can be a regularly used part of my show again!
