“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

We believe that we have been called to use the gifts God has given us to reach unbelievers for Him and to encourage, and build up His Church.

Baptist Park Visits Caribou Nursing Home

It consistently pleases and amazes me how being a performer has permeated so many areas of my day to day life.  For example, during the summers I am the director of a Christian summer camp in Mapleton, Maine.  Last week we had campers ranging in age from 13 to 18, and it was drama camp.  Maureen Seavey,a friend from southern Maine, was the playwright, director and producer of a 25 minute play about the life of Joseph that was to be performed at the closing service on Friday evening.

Early in the week, I had the idea that the entire camp needed to visit the local nursing home in the city of Caribou, 15 miles from camp.  I spoke to the activities director, who jumped at the chance.  Then my wheels really started spinning:

>  The campers could do Maureen's play as a dress rehearsal for the folks in Caribou.

> I have two staff whom I have taught to juggle.  One, Lauren, is a true master of the craft

> Maureen's eight year old little girl is a relatively accomplished gymnast

> It would be easy to teach some of the campers some of my better illusions, including dove and rabbit productions.

>  Our worship leaders, Dylan and Josh, are some of the best we've had in a while here at camp.

> It would be easy enough to get everyone to make a card for a resident during arts and crafts time

"Hmmm," I thought, "Let's give them a full afternoon of performances.

The show was wonderful, the visit was a blessing, and we even met an elderly lady who was a camper at Baptist Park back in the 1950s!  In fact, you can meet her at the link below, which is from a local news channel, who did a story on our afternoon there.

PS:  Unrelated to this story, I need to tell you that we started the week showing the camp the 1999 movie version of "Joseph and the Amazing Technocolor Dream Coat".  It is amazing!  The entire movie is on youtube, and it is classic Andrew Lloyd Webber: big, colorful, zany.  Donny Osmond, my wife's heartthrob, was amazing in the lead role.  But it was an Elvis impersonator playing Pharaoh who made my night!
