On Saturday morning before Easter Sunday, the Assembly of God church in Windham, Maine hosts an annual Easter egg hunt. I've known about this event for years, but I had no idea what a big event it was. This year Rose and I juggled at this event, and we saw first hand that it is very big, indeed.
There was an audience of 170 people, and not just children, either. Parents, grandparents and church leaders were present. There were even some teens, although they didn't seem to be there for the egg hunt so much as to hang out.
After the kids registered and were told the rules of the hunt, Rose and I did a 30 minute show. Forgive me if I boast, but we nailed every routine. The audience loved it - all ages - and our juggling was without error. Obviously, we focused on an Easter theme.
After the show, the kids were organized by ages and sent out to hunt for their prizes. We enjoyed supporting this local church's outreach efforts, and were very pleased to hear that many of the people, perhaps half, were not regulars at the church. Perhaps this family friendly event will be a step toward faith in someone's life.
Finally, the hostess of the event was the church's administrative assistant, Jaci Taylor. Jaci was in my class as a 7th grader in 1995. I remember that year we had a Christmas concert fund raiser, and her family were the musicians. At intermission, Jaci and I did a partner juggling routine not very different from the one Rose and I did on Saturday morning. As Harry Chapin wrote, "All my life's a circle." And I'm enjoying the laps around.
