Since becoming a disciple of Jesus in 1985, I have heard again and again that when we walk out of the church doors, we are entering the mission field. What if we really meant it? There’s certainly no arguing the truth of the statement. 4% of the population of Maine attend an evangelical church. 70% do not attend any religious services on a regular basis. Statistically, we are among the highest states in the nation in incest, drugged driving, teenaged smokers, and more. The mission field does start outside our doors.
That is why I have offered to lead Bridgton Alliance’s first mission trip… to Bridgton! From May 18th through the 26th, our church will be doing a mission project right here in our hometown. The mission project will include: construction projects, a free medical clinic, free oil changes, free car washes, a variety of evangelistic programs, and more. There is a way for everyone in our congregation to get involved in these outreaches, there’s no travel expenses , and you can sleep in your own bed each night.
Specific needs include:
Prayer, prayer, prayer
Helping at these various outreach projects with the skills God’s given you!
Thinking of, and suggesting, other outreach projects. The list isn’t limited to what is written above. In fact, one gentleman has offered to give free golf lessons. That’s a very legit ministry, too.
Donations of motor oil, filters, and construction materials (a specific list will be made available to the congregation as the event gets closer).
Suggestions of people who could benefit from free repairs around their home: the elderly, single moms, disabled, etc.
This is a unique idea that has the potential to impact the town in very significant ways, grow new ongoing ministries within our church, and let people know that we’re here, and we want to serve. You’ll be hearing more about this soon.
