LOL's final day in Vermont was Sunday. We had the opportunity to thank Community Bible Church, our host church, by doing a program for their kids' program. First we had to eat, clean up and pack up all of our luggage, because we had been using some of their Sunday school rooms for our bedrooms for three nights. The team was remarkably efficient in getting these tasks done.
The kids' service started at 10:00 with some surprisingly good kids' worship music. I was very proud of how the LOL kids got involved with the CBC kids; sitting with them and doing motions to the songs alongside of them. Then we were on.
As often happens, many of my students want to step it up in their final show of the year, and, in the case of our 15 eighth graders, the final LOL show of their careers. Emily and Stephanie both joined 9 of their classmates in "Jesus is Victor", the routine in which we throw juggling balls into the audience while juggling. The crowd, in turn, throws them back and we keep juggling. Cutter did double flips with machetes for the first time, and Katie juggled machetes for her first and only time in front of an audience. Molly devil sticked for the first time in a show, and Zeb diaboloed. These latter two are both 7th graders, which gives me hope for the foundation of next year's team.
As the show ended, there were a few tears as it sunk in that LOL was coming to an end, but they passed quickly. After loading props, we headed out toward Maine, stopping only in Montpelier to have the buffet at House of Tang Chinese Restaurant. Then, full and tired, we enjoyed a scenic, mellow trip east.
