Our middle daughter, Naomi, has been in Israel for the last week, and she will be there another week. This is a class trip sponsored by her college, and she will be getting credits for her minor in Bible for going. She is with a group of about 20 college students and staff.
So far, she has slept in the desert in Bedouin tents, visited a variety of places of worship, been to the Mediterranean, and seen the "Judas tree" that was filmed in the movie version of "Jesus Christ Superstar". This brought back a lot of memories for her, and, as she told us about it, brought back memories for her older sister, Jo, and me as well. When both of the girls were in my middle school class, we did a spoof on "Superstar" based on events from events throughout that school year. It's truly a case of you-had-to-be-there, but we have retold the story often, and it always brings us to laughter.
Unfortunately, she also has lost her jacket, but there was nothing in the pockets, and she does have other warm clothes with her. If that's the worst thing that happens, she's having a good trip.
I guess like all parents, Sue and I worry when our kids are away. Like all parents, we hang on every word she posts. Like all parents, we're proud and look for opportunities to boast about their exploits. Like all parents, we can't believe how quickly they grow up.
If you have facebook, and if you know Naomi, you can keep up with her trip in much more detail than I can get into on this blog. Check out her hundreds of pictures, and even post a message to her if you want. She'd love to hear from you.
