After visiting my mother-in-law in Biddeford, Maine, Sue, Jo, Rose and I went to the neighboring city of Saco to do a show at an adult day care facility. Getting there was a comedy of errors. First of all, upon trying to get directions from the internet, I discovered there was no "Treswell" House in Saco, as I had listed it on this web site. It only took a minute to discover the facility was actually called "Truslow" House. Quickly, I entered this into mapquest and got directions from my mother-in-law's.
As we set off for the show, we followed the directions exactly, only to end up on a residential cul-de-sac in the outskirts of town. After asking a friendly, albeit not very helpful UPS driver for more info about Truslow House's location, we set off for the center of the city of Saco again. I didn't have the phone number with me, so we called information from Sue's cell, only to find out - after an eternity of robot voices mispronouncing the name of the facility we were loking for - that there was no listing for Truslow House in Saco, Maine. Or anywhere in Maine.
Our oldest daughter, Jo, called our middle daughter, Naomi, who was at our house, as we had the phone number at home. Naomi found the number, and we quickly hung up with her and called Truslow. Slowly the receptionist at the facility talked us through the directions. We arrived 20 minutes before the show was to start, and scrambled to get set up. We started at 1:00 on the nose! Apparently, Truslow wasn't listed in information by itself as it is a part of a larger medical complex with a different name.
Unbelievably, we started on time, and the show was fine. The clientelle there are adults who live at home but need supervision if their caregivers need to be out for a while: dementia patients, people with Down's syndrome, other health needs. The folks loved the show, especially Jeremiah the Rabbit, and we had a lot of fun. Rose nailed the flower production illusion.
This was our final show of the summer, as the older girls go back to college in New York on Monday, and Sue, Rose and I all start the new school year the day after that. It's been a full summer, and a full summer of performing. We did programs from Canada to Paraguay, and we will always remember the summer of 2013 as one of the most enjoyable and meaningful ones ever.
