Yesterday evening we had the opportunity to visit with people at the Casco (Maine) Alliance Church, two towns away from where we live. Casco Alliance was hosting a community barbeque and we were invited to eat there, then share our show. Casco Alliance has recently celebrated its 100th anniversary, and it is a quaint little church alongside route 302.
We were blessed with good weather,, so the meal and the show were in the churchyard. Our mother-in-law joined us, as we feasted on chicken and burgers. The food alone was worth the trip.
We started the show as the meal was winding down. Being an outside venue, Rose and I were able to perform flaming torches and I did firs balls, flaming diabolo and fire devil sticks as well. So many venues ban the use of fire these days that when we get the chance we light as many things on fire as is reasonable!
Rose also impressed with machete juggling and several illusions. The closing routine was the dollar bill in the lemon trick, which led into a short devotional thought about "Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart." It was a good program all the way around.
While picking up, many in attendance came up to speak to us. Mostly it was teens and kids who came up to Rose, who was strategically armed with the rabbit as well. I had one man come up to me and told me how he had just recently returned to his faith. He spoke very highly of Garrett, the Casco Alliance pastor, and told me that our show really ministered to him as well.
Another older couple also approached. They are visiting from Florida. They shared their story of faith with me as well. They introduced me to their son, who they said (right in front of him, the poor guy) "He doesn't go to church, but maybe this will help get him interested." Yeah, I hope in some small way it does help get him interested.
Pastor Garrett told me afterwards that most of the people in attendance are not actually regulars in his church, but do benefit from his church's food pantry ministry. He was very pleased with the turn out and the message that was shared with them.
