Bridgton Health Care Show 2/26/2011
Today we did a show at the Bridgton (Maine) Health Care Center. This is a local nursing home; our closest show to where we live, except for the time we did a show out in our yard for the neighborhood kids.
Because this is a venue we do about four times a year, and, quite honestly, a show where we get very little response from the residents, I considered canceling. I could use the excuse that I had to shovel out from last nights foot of snow. In the end, I packed the van, grabbed one more cup of coffee for the road, and drove the three miles to the nursing home. I prayed that God would do something unique today, but doubted He would. After all, I'm there every three months, and can rarely even coax a smile from the audience.
It was a pretty good show, especially given the low ceiling, the bain of jugglers. I tried out some new things which went mostly very well. But here's how God answered my doubtful prayer. Our friend Nancy Grigg, and her nine year old son Kyle had heard we would be performing there, and decided to come to the show. She told me that, during the show, one resident who never responded to anything was applauding at appropriate times. She said this resident even said, "Praise Jesus," a few times. My prayer for something unique was answered! And when the show was over, Nancy began 'working the crowd'. She was speaking to residents about the show, talking to them about Jesus, and doing a wonderful job following up our message on a very personal level.
As the Scripture teaches, 'One plants, another waters, but the Lord provides the harvest.' Thank you Nancy and Kyle, for being part of the process of bringing about a harvest at our local nursing home.
