Every Thursday, the Bridgton, Maine community center hosts a free lunch. It is usually attended by retirees, some people with special needs, and a handful of younger folks. A few times a year I go and provide lunch time entertainment, and yesterday was one of those times. Almost every seat in the dining room was filled, and this is the set list of what I did:
"Crown Him With Many Crowns": Hat jugging to this familiar hymn. Recently I've been includung a kick up not to my own head, but - after a few fails to my head - to a maniquin head held in my left hand.
"The Lost Coin": A series of sleights with a borrowed $20 bill that retells Jesus story of the woman who searched everywhere for her lost silver coin. A reminder that our eternal souls are even more valuable to God than mere cash is to us.
"Hand Guillotine": Just as the name implies, a blade passes through my hand without harm while cutting a carrot below.
"Father and Daughter": Usually the song for my club routine, but, due to limited space, it was a mix of rings, clubs and machetes.
"OCC": While speaking about our visit to an Ecuadorian Compassion International site, where kids opened their Operation Christmas Child gifts, I produce a jumbo cross out of a gift bag, reminding everyone of the ultimate Christmas gift.
And the coolest thing was, after the show, a lady came up to me to share that her nephew, a missions major at a mid-western college, was doing his intership in Ecuador this summer. And I was even ging to do that routine, much less close with it, until the last minute.
