“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

We believe that we have been called to use the gifts God has given us to reach unbelievers for Him and to encourage, and build up His Church.

What if they held a VBS and Nobody Came?

Belissa was not only the dance teacher of all three of our daughters, she and her husband, Jeff, have become friends of ours.  So when she called to ask if I ould do routines for her small country church's VBS this summer, I was disappointed that it was during a week we had already scheduled a week of camp ministry at the other end of the state.  Then, because of some unexpected events, we had to delay our trip to camp by a couple of days.  I quickly got back in touch to tell Belissa that we could do something on the very first day of her church's VBS if she still wanted to.  She was pleased to hear this, and planned to use me as the kick-off event of the week.

So, on a hot Monday morning a couple of weeks ago, Sue and I went to the neighboring town of Sebago, Maine, to set up for our  kick-off for the big week.  Belissa met us early at the church, and had us set up outside in the front yard. We had a few snags in the preparation for the show, so we were about 10 minutes late being ready to start.  This didn't matter, however, as there was no audience yet.  We waited a little longer; still no guests.  We decided I'd start with the four adult VBS leaders who were present, and hopefully this might draw some attention.  After all, we were set up on the front lawn adjacent to the main road through town.

While I had fun performing, and the four adults in the audience seemed to appreciate my efforts, no one else joined.  Perhaps it was due to the fact that there are no young families in this church and they were counting too much on nonchurch families to bring their kids.  Perhaps it was because Sebago's parks and rec. department started their summer day camps the same day.  Regardless, We had a chance to catch up with an old friend and hear what the kids are doing now that they're all grown up.  And glorifying God on a beautiful summer day through the medium He has blessed me with is never a waste of time.

So what if the held a VBS and nobody came?  I'd juggle anyway!
