One of the cool things about a ministry like mine, and consequentally about LOL, the spin off ministry involving my middle school class, is the array of venues that open up to us. Recently, LOL had the chance to visit another Christian school- one that is our opponent in basketball and soccer, and lead their chapel service. Central Maine Chritian Academy, in Lewiston, is similar to WCA in size, and in that both schools go from Pre-K through high school.
My seventh and eighth graders were terrific setting up in a rather small space. Because my sciacita was flairing up, I couldn't do any of the hauling of props up and down the stairs (our show was in the basement). While they usually do a lot of this, this day they did it all. Once we were set up, their students began to arrive.
Honestly, this show started very poorly. In the opening routine, Eli failed to land a jump on his ripstick, and fell pretty hard on one knee. A partner juggling routine that I do with Hadley was filled with drops, and worst part is, they were all my fault! I began to think it was going to be one of those shows. I accepted that this was where things were headed, so I offered up silent prayer of surrender. After ll, LOL has not had what I would consider a poor performance for over three school years now. It happens.
But then it was like flipping a switch. When Hadley came back on stage to do the Creation story with a production, it was like a reset button was pushed. Everything turned around. Toby did his best ever at eating an apple while juggling (Adam and Eve, of course). The rest of the juggling was flawless, including Elsa juggling three basketballs in a very small space. Not only that, but two students were absent, so there were a lot of substitutions, and they were perfectly executed. "Prodigal Juggler", always a favorite, was actually kicked up a notch by the excellent performances of Cooper playing the older son, and Faith, Eva and Elsa playing the 'three ditzy airheads' with a whole new flare. Cooper also performed in "Beautiful, Scandalous Night' for his first time; always a milestone for a juggler in our group. These kids are great, and we had a lot of fun seeing another school similar to ours.
