My 7th and 8th grade students make up LOL, a troupe of jugglers and vaudeville performers who share the Gospel throughout the school year in a variety of venues. For the month of December, when life becomes astronomically busier than normal, it has become a tradition to do our show for our elementary students in a special chapel. This year we kept with tradition and LOL did a very special chapel program for our youngest schoolmates, grades pre-k through 6th.
The best of many positives that can be said about that service is that LOL gave the show all the energy and enthusiasm they do in all their shows 'on the road'. While some years there's a tendency to minimize the importance of a show at school. After all, this is where we practice each week, we know these kids in the audience, and some are even siblings. But this year's team held back nothing, and consequentially, the show was agruably the best of the year so far.
It is typical this time of year to talk to the kids about taking the show from good to great, and this was a big step in that direction. Kids stayed in characterwhen in the background, their acting became more mature by doing the subtle things right, and more importantly, bringing their own personalities into their parts.
As for juggling, Shaylee did two balls and a club for the first time in a show, Liam did three different sized balls perfectly, and Luke did devil sticks on a balance board flawlessly. Faith's high throws with her diabolo were perfect, and Avery wowed with a machete, battle ax and sickle cascade.
We are now on Christmas break, but our next show is the second day we are back in 2024. Things look very promising for LOL in the new ywar!
