Tree of Life Church in Windham, Maine, like many churches, has a special program on Wednesday evenings. There is a boys' group, an adult prayer meeting, and a girls' group known as Daisies. Last week I was invited to share my program with the Daisies as their guest missionary.
The group is for elementary school aged girls, of which there was about 18 in attendance, along with two adult helpers, and Emily, a teenaged former student of mine who is getting her community service hours by volunteering with the girls. Em is one of my all time favorites, and she is so good with the children!
I was invited to both perform my routines and speak about my ministry. Although the girls were young, they were attentive when I spoke about doing shows as close to three miles from my home, and as far as Africa. I spoke about how I communicated in the Dominican Republic and other Spanish speaking countries.
But of course, their and my favorite parts of the evening were the routines I did. I performed my herringbone cigar box balance, one of my oldest Gospel routines from 1985. I was especially glad to perform my blacklight juggling routine to the Newsboys' song "Shine". I don't get to do this one often, but the venue was able to give me a total blackout, so I went for it. I juggling three and four glowing balls, glowing rings, three jumbo glowing balls, and did flag swinging with glowing flags.
The evening was a lot of fun, and I heard the next day that one of the girls was heard saying she now wants to come to the school where I teach. That's a big complement!
