My wife and I are on our first real vacation in decades, as we are spending the month of July in Texas with our two daughter and one son in law. Although we didn't come to do our show, we had gotten four ivitations to perform before arriving, and another two since we've been here. Honestly, this will break things up nicely among sightseeing, visiting, and relaxing. The first of these gigs was on the morning of the 4th of July, at a neighborhood party near Sam and Jona-Lynn's church. I juggled in a neighborhood parade, then at the park as people from the neighborhood socialized, ate watermelon and listened to country music.
Walk-around juggling is not a show in the truest sense of the word, but it was fun nonetheless. People came up to speak with me, kids asked to learn how to juggle, and a fe dads showed their basic juggling skills they still had from Junior High PE class. And here is also where I met a teenager named Christian.
Christianhas been lerning diabolo over the past couple of weeks. I let him use mine (actually, my son-in-law's. That wy I hd one less this to bring on the lane from Maine.) The kid had already lerned the basics and a few cool tricks I taught him some more, and he ws quick to learn. I found out from his mom who was there that he had just ordered his first triple bearing diabolo the day before. Interesting timing.
Although I don't have a crystal ball (actually, I do for contact juggling, but it has no magicl powers) I believe God had a purpose for this meeting. What it is I don't know, but it was too big of a coincidence for it to be, well, a coincidence. I remember meeting members of the Amazing Fantasy Jugglers when I was a teen, and wthing the Coast Guard Academy's Juggling Club performwhen I was first starting out. Those meetings meant a lot to me, more thn anyone would guess from a 10 minute interaction and I hope Christian will say the same some dy when he looks back at our (not) random meeting last week.
