“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

We believe that we have been called to use the gifts God has given us to reach unbelievers for Him and to encourage, and build up His Church.

Coup at the Old Folks Home

I have performed at Bella Point, Fryeburg (formerly Fryeburg Helth Care) countless times under the invitation of many different activities directors over the years, but recently things there took an unusual turn.  The newest activities director, who I met once before and is a very nice guy and great with the residents, scheduled me to do a show on a Friday afternoon, which is his day off.  It is also normally BINGO time.

Noone there that afternoon seemed to have connected the dots until I arrived and began bringing my props into the dining room while the residents were still eating lunch.  Quickly, the dots were connected.  When the scheduling conflict was pointed out to the nurses, resident activities assistant and even the administrator, I was told to go ahead with the show.  Meanwhile, the buzz spread among the residents faster than I can produce doves out of flaming pans.  They were clearly not happy.  In fact, they were not very discreetly discussing a boycott of my show.

So, by the time lunch was over and my props were set up,  the coup was agreed upon and organized.  Everyone left the lunchroom, and the only residents the staff was able to bring back in were the most severe dementia and nonambulatory ones!

I proceeded with myroutines as planned with virtually no audience response.  It was a lesson in faithfulness for me, and I must admit I hung in there pretty well.  I praise God that I was able to resist discouragement and actually find joy in doing the program.
