“Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

We believe that we have been called to use the gifts God has given us to reach unbelievers for Him and to encourage, and build up His Church.

Scarborough Veterans' Home

The Veterans'home in Scarborough, Maine is a new venue for me, and I was glad to got there last week to do a show outdoors on their patio.  I was thrown a bit of a curveball when I arrived, though, when the activity director told me that the Gospel presentation had to be 'discreet'.  First of all, I didn't know where the line for  discreet was exactly.  Furthermore, I only bring th props I plan to use for any given show.  I brought most biblical routines.  I was further confused because the activity director is someone I've done ministry with for years.  In fact, I juggled at her wedding reception.  So it was time for my go-to prayer, "Okay, Lord, whatever."  I began t set up while contemplating how to alter some routines and which ones were 'discreet' enough to include.

I began the show with a variety of juggling and magic routines adapted so they entertained but didn't teach.  I moved the show along to a point whre I did my story/illusion about the resurrection.  I figured that was kind of a big part of the message I was there to teach.  Then I did a series of illusions about Solomon's words at the end of Ecclesiates, " Having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion: Fear God and keep his commandments, because this is the whole duty of man."  Then I closed with my devil sticking routine, ending with fire.

At that point, the director of the home came flying out onto the patio insisting I put the fire out.  It never occurred tome that flames flying through the air could be a problem for an audience, so many of whom have PTD.  Oh dear.

The good news, though, is that the fire debachle made the question of my biblical discretion a nonissue.  But I know when I go back, and yes I have been invited back, I'll know how to plan.
