This summer I've been averaging five shows a week or so. Consequently, I've not been able to blog about every show as they happen. From July 26 through the 31st, for example,I did six programs in five different venues. Here's a quick summary of the shows that week:
> Portland Root Cellar. I did two shows there on th 26th. One was for 4th through sixth graders, one for K through 3rd. In both shows, I did a performance for 20 minutes or so, then taught a mix of basic juggling, homemade magic and balloon animals.Since I go to the Root Cellar a few times a year, I know some of the kids a little bit, and it was fun to see Mohammad, Naomi and some of the others again.
> Legacy Memory Care. This was a new venue for me. LMC is a setting secifically for dementia patients. The residents were ambulatory and most were very conversant. It wasn't until the end when I really picked up on the level of memory problems they had. The same lady asked me the names, sexes and ages of my doves at least 15 times! I have to believe that God can reach a place in them deeper than their minds, and, in fact, I've seen it happen (Read my blog "John 3:16")
> Fort Kent Community Church. This was a new venue, sort of. I had done a show there years ago when it was a Methodist Church. The building was bought by an arts center, then by FKCC. This was an evening service where I went for an hour, and was one of the best shows of the summer. I hope to return, maybe on a Sunday morning.
> Ocean Wood Camp: Ocean Wood is in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. The show was for a mix of teen campers, kids in theirday camp program, special needs adults, and, of course, staff. It was a hot, humid morning, but it was a good show with a Gospel message that I hope touched some hearts.
> Church in the Park. On Sunday, July 31, I did a show at the Main Street park in Westbrook Maine. The First Baptist Church lies adjacent tothe park, and since covid-19, they have been having their services outdoors in the park, at least May through October. The benefits of this include being able to keep services going doing the heart of the pandemic and having many visitors There were about 150 people present on the 31st, many of whom were just 'passing through'.
One of the best things about performing regularly again is the chance to reinstate routines that have been shelved for a while: Elijah, Mary and Marty, Creed, Salt and Light and others. It's nice to remember that these routines are pretty good and creative and worth doing.
Andnow it's August, and I'm stillbehind on my blogs.
