Casco Inn is a residence in the little town of Casco, Maine. It is not a nursing home, as the residents are ambulatory and not dementia patients. It is, in the old fashion vernacular, an old folks home. Last week I had the blessing of doing a show in their beautiful backyard. Along with many of the residents and staff, the audience included two elementary aged kids (grandkids of staff) and some other guests.
Of course, outdoor shows come with challenges unknown in indoor shows, and that day the challenge was that the sun was high in the sky and it was hard to position myself in such a way as to not be blinded by the sun or turn my back to the audience. Fortunately there were tents and awnings set up for the audience, so they remained in the shade. On the upside for me, outdoor shows mean no limited height due to ceilings, no smoke detectors, so juggling fire was a go, and plenty of space. Also, there was minimal wind that day, which made juggling easier.
While I was setting up, Sue went into the nearby town to run a few errands. It was hot, and I literally prayed that she would think to drive through Dunkin and get me an iced coffee. Self serving prayer, for sure, but when she arrived at the start of the show, she came with an iced coconut coffee from Dunkin. God and my wife are so good to me!
As mentioned earlier, being outside can be both a challenge and a blessing for a juggling show. Although the sun was a challenge, the other conditions made up for that. I was able to do a lot of high throws with the diabolo, spin a glass pot lid as a diabolo, fire devil sticks, and more. More importantly, I have been desiring to be clear and relevent in my Gospel presentations again, and I think tht goal was met.
And Dunkin iced coffee never tasted better!
