The whole world would agree that this past year was thoroughly disrupted by the corona virus epidemic, and that has certainly been true of my ministry as well. I was busy at the start of the year, before everything changed of course. January started with Lake Regions Got Talent. Each Sunday in January I was part of this competition. Although my routines were not blatantly “Christian” in theme, there were plenty of opportunities to be salt to the people I met there, including praying back stage with nervous fellow competitors. The music, too, was Gospel, including "When the Saints Go Marching In", "Hallelujah Chorus" and "Shine".
The rest of my schedule stayed normal as well, with shows at churches, jails, nursing homes and other venues. Then the world changed for my ministry and for every else as well.
At the start of the quarantine, I used the time to work on new routines, as well as pulling old material off the shelf to give it new life. I've added a Chinese sticks routine, a comedmy card prediction, a monologue about shopping for groceries, a new dove from burning book production, and a goldfish production. I also brought Mary and Marty, Johynny's Cafe, the herring bone, a coin penetration, He's Got the Whole World, "Do Not Love the World", Standing on the Promises of God, Light and Salt to the place where they can be performed consistently again (and better than they ever were). In the end, this has really paid off, and I feel more prepared focused for when I start performing regularly again.
In April I published “My Best Days” which is my third book of blogs about performing, reflections, devotional writing and journal entries. Then in May I started a youtube channel where I have begun putting up videos of routines. There are currently 19 videos up.
By June I was able to start doing some outdoor shows. My summer schedule was nowhere near what it would normally have been, but local venues kept me doing some shows.
One of my favorite things to come out of this year has been the chance to present routines in my home church every other Sunday. I hope that this would encourage members of the congregation to pray for us and perhaps join us for shows as the opportunity arises. I’ve also been able to do shows for chapel at school on occasion. As for LOL, my student juggling team, they have done remote shows, live shows at school, and have also begun their own youtube channel.
Unrelated to performing, I have continued to work on acrylic painting, and my work - amateurish though it is - can be seen on the gallery link of this web site.
I am thankful that I have been able to continue my Gospel presentations, although at a slower pace than usual. However, I look forward to the world opening up again and returning to venues that have been closed to us for a year.
