Our Pastor, his wife and youngest son are out of town this week to attend one of his older son's college graduations. He asked me to fill in for him this week, which happens to be Mothers' Day weekend. What a privilege to get to speak to our church on such an important morning.
Before we ever arrived at church, Rose (our 14 year old), and I got up early and made my wife a special breakfast of strawberry popovers, home fries and sausages. when it was ready, Sue joined us in the kitchen, opened her gifts ( flower pots, soil, and seeds for an herb garden) and we enjoyed Rose's and my culinary masterpiece together.
I left right for, church after that because I use power point in my sermons and needed to connect with the audio-visual guys. It also gave me time to hide in an empty Sunday school room to practice what I was going to say one last time.
I really enjoyed the chance to preach about mothers and their incredible importance. I touched on a variety of topics, including foster moms, step moms, mothers-in-law, and more. I ended the service by showing a video of Shirley Caesar's song " No Charge".
After that, we headed home, grilled out a Mothers' Day meal for Sue, then went to a local pool for a swim and time in their hot tub. I know it's not really my day, but this may have been my best Mother's Day ever.
